So, you’ve made a film and want to know whether to enter it into the WA Screen Awards? There are a few things to keep in mind.
Entries for Early Career Awards, Outstanding Achievement in Drama Production and Outstanding Achievement in Factual Production should be made through Withoutabox.com
Entries for Outstanding Achievement by a Practitioner and nominations for Young Filmmaker of the Year should be made on this website, below
- Entrants must be Western Australian residents, or a Western Australian production company as per ScreenWest’s terms of trade.
- Entries must have been completed between 1 January and 31 December 2010.
- Early career entrants can have no more than 30 minutes of professional credits in their field (except for Best Music Video, which is open to filmmakers of all levels).
- Your entry will not be valid until all materials have been received. A failure to supply all requested materials will void your entry. Entry fees are non-refundable
- In order to receive the advertised discount on entry fees, materials must be received by FTI no later than two days following the entry deadline. Productions entered after that date will incur undiscounted fees as set out in the application form.
All WASA nominees must have resided in Western Australia for at least six months prior to the 24th WA Screen Awards and must be listed on the Western Australian electoral roll.
All entries must be finalised by Friday 16th December 2010 to be eligible for judging.

2. If you are already a member, enter your username and password in the “Withoutabox Express” section to begin submitting your entry. If you are not already a member, simply enter in all your details in the “First Time Users” section.
3. You will then be prompted to enter in details of your entry. Simply click through each form page and fill out all the required information.
4. You will need to agree to the Terms and Conditions of Entry during this online entry process. Please read these carefully! NB: you can download a PDF version of these conditions above.
5. You will also need to pay the entry fee during your WAB application (credit card only). Note: We only accept payment through WAB, you will not receive a Tracking Number unless you have completed this step.
6. After you have filled out the last page, a confirmation page will appear which will inform you of your Tracking Number (eg put example here). PLEASE KEEP A RECORD OF THIS NUMBER. You must write this Tracking Number on all materials that you submit (on the cover and on the actual DVD), that way we can match your entry number with your film. Also, if you have any questions regarding your entry after you have received confirmation, you will need to quote this number to us in order for us to look up your film in the database.

Young Filmmaker of the Year
Nominate yourself or a colleague now for Young Filmmaker of the Year.
The Young Filmmaker of the Year is judged on a young filmmaker’s body of work over, at least, the past two years.
Nominations for this award can either be made by the individual or on behalf of another screen artist.
Nominees must be under 26 years of age.
Please have Young Filmmaker of the Year nominations in by 14 December 2010

Outstanding Contribution to the Industry
This is awarded to an individual who has displayed a long-term commitment to WA film and television.
Nominations can either be made by the individual or on behalf of another screen industry member.
Please make sure you have nominations in by 14 December 2010.

INDUSTRY AWARDS
This year, the Industry Awards have been amended and there are now four awards:
- Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Drama Production
This Award is presented to a Western Australian drama production that has achieved an outstanding level of success in the 2010 calendar year. This can be box office figures, ratings success, critical acclaim, festival success, or national and international awards. The Award is presented to the Producer.
- Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Factual Production
This Award is presented to a Western Australian factual or documentary production that has achieved an outstanding level of success in the 2010 calendar year. This can be box office figures, ratings success, critical acclaim, festival success, or national and international awards. The Award is presented to the Producer.
- Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Practitioner
This Award recognises the significant achievements of an individual practitioner. This can be for any craft, and can be for work undertaken on a single production or multiple productions, however, the achievements must have occurred in the 2010 calendar year.
In addition, the Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry is also awarded.

Eligibility
Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Drama Production
Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Factual ProductionThese awards are open to any feature film, tele-feature, mini series, short run series, documentary or factual production produced or co-produced by a Western Australian Resident Company.
The production must be at least a commercial half hour in duration; short films are not eligible.
The production must have had an Australian theatrical release or national television transmission. It must have completed production within the two years prior to its Australian broadcast or release.
The Entrant must be a Western Australian resident, who is a Producer of the production. The award will be presented to the WA Producer/s of the production.
The award will be judged on the achievements experienced by a Western Australian production during the 2010 calendar year (1 January – 31 December 2010).
A production that has been previously entered into the Awards is ineligible for entry into the current or any future Awards.
By entering the WA Screen Awards, the Entrant warrants that the entry complies with the Terms and Conditions as listed on the WA Screen Awards website.
Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Achievement ~ Practitioner
This Award recognises the significant achievements of a Western Australian practitioner for the individual’s work on one or more feature film, tele-feature, mini series or short run series, or commercial-length factual production. Work undertaken on a short film will not be considered.
The award is open to industry practitioners of any craft who are a resident of Western Australia. A Western Australian resident is someone who has been resident in Western Australia for at least six months prior to the award nomination and is registered on the Western Australian electoral roll.
The award is judged on an individual’s achievements experienced during the 2010 calendar year (1 January – 31 December 2010). This may be national and international awards, critical acclaim, festival success, box office figures and ratings success.By entering the WA Screen Awards, the Entrant warrants that the entry complies with the Terms and Conditions as listed on the WA Screen Awards website.
Submission Materials
The Entrant must supply the following supporting materials by the closing date:
• A completed Nomination Form.
• For productions, a full copy of the production on DVD or hard drive for judging purposes.
• For practitioners, a showreel showcasing work you have referenced in your Nomination Form
• A 2-minute clip of the production or nominees work.
• A CD of good quality JPEG images (minimum of 3) with photographer/copyright details.By entering these Awards, you agree to the use of the written material, showreel, 2-minute clip and photographic material for judging purposes, the Awards presentation evening, media opportunities and to promote the WASAs.
The Entrant warrants that he/she has the permission of all rights holders in the Work to grant these rights to WASA and warrants that the use of the rights granted to WASA will not breach any right, including copyright, of any third party and that the entrant is fully able to make these warranties and will indemnify WASA for any loss, claims for damages and all costs made against it or incurred by it as a result of any breach of these warranties made by the entrant.
The Entrant acknowledges that WASA will retain possession of the supporting materials until after the presentation of the Awards. Submission materials will be available for collection from the Film & Television Institute from 14 March 2011.
WASA shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to submission materials.

Deadlines and Entry Fees
The following deadlines and entry fees apply to the Lotterywest Awards for Outstanding Achievement:

Both Industry awards will be judged by a specially convened industry panel. The panel will also select the winner of the Lotterywest Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Industry.
The panel will be chaired by ScreenWest and will consist of a member from each of the following industry associations:
- Association of Screen Professionals (ASP)
- Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS)
- Australian Directors’ Guild (ADG)
- Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG)
- Film & Television Institute (FTI)
- Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA)
- Western Australian Animation Association (WAnimate)
Each industry association will be asked to nominate a representative; this may be a Western Australian member or someone from the national body. ScreenWest reserves the right to nominate additional panel member.
The panel will compare each of the entries to determine which entry is most deserving of the award for the year. Examples of factors taken into consideration include national and international award nominations/wins; selection at national and international festivals; box office performance; ratings; national and international sales; and the generation of significant levels of production in Western Australia.
